Gro-egg: Color Changing Digital Room Thermometer

by Tammi on 05/24/2011 · 380 comments

One of the things you quickly learn as a new parent is to keep your baby at a comfortable temperature. With each of my 3 children, I always wondered about the temperature of their room, especially when sleeping. After all, I live in Canada, and the temperature ranges from a snarly -40 in the winter to +25 in the summer. And, as locals always say, ‘If you don’t like the weather – wait 5 minutes’. It’s true that it can drastically change temperature without you even realizing.

Room temperature is vital in providing a safe room environment for children. There is leading studies that show that a SIDS risk factor is stale hot air {which is why having ceiling fans in the nursery is so popular these days}. Since information like this can make any parent a basket case from time to time, many check their baby’s temperature many times through the night. Yet who wants to continually check the temperature of a sleeping child? Personally, I’d like to leave a sleeping child be, if possible.

The Gro-egg is a digital readout thermometer, which looks like an egg and can be placed on any flat surface away from registers, drafty windows and venting {as these areas might sway the actual temperature of the room}. It plugs into an outlet and the eggs changes color {red, orange, yellow, blue} depending on the rooms current temperature range. The color changing system allows for an immediate visual indicator of your infant’s environment, and keeps this important factor at the front of your mind. With just a glance in the room, you know the temperature. Though it also had LCD display of room temperature, the egg’s color allows you to know the room temperature, without having to set foot in the room. Learning 4 colors and their meanings is easier than trying to read a blurry number at 3am, right? And, the coloring system is easy to learn, blue {too cold}, red {too hot}, Orange
{getting up there but still alright}. And yellow means the room is at perfect temperature.

I love having the Gro-egg in my twins’ nursery, what a great product that I wished I had known about sooner! I can glace at the dresser right form the doorway and know if I need to add or remove a blanket ot alter the thermostat {if it’s way too high or low}. It’s been really hot in my house this last week, so the twins’ Gro-egg has been in the lower orange range which is actually perfect for them. Keeping them at a comfortable temperature means they sleep soundly though the night and don’t wake up with rashes on their sensitive skin.

The Gro-egg really is one handy parenting product that I wish I had years before. And, I can see now that the twins are getting older, it also makes for a nice nightlight that is just bright enough to give them some security at night. The Gro-egg gives peace of mind and would be a sensible gifting product, when compared to yet another onesie!

The Gro-egg can be found at Rock Pretty Baby, a Canadian retailer that sells all the hottest products for child and parent. At Rock Pretty Baby, shipping is a flat rate $5 or FREE when you spend over $49 {This is for both US and Canadian shoppers}. And, if you are lucky enough to live n the Calgary, AB area – you can pick up as well.

3 Sprouts Organic Storage Bin from RockPrettyBaby Review (Giveaway)

It is the parent’s responsibility how a child grows up to be. Input of knowledge, being the best example and providing appropriate learning tools are the ways to achieve the goal. And if being clean and organized is the objective, parents should instruct them how to do it, make sure they do it themselves and give them things that can assist them in ensuring that the deed can be done. Start with their room. Provide them with this nice looking 3 Sprouts Organic Storage Bin – Sly Fox that would look wonderful among their things. They can make it a storage bin for their toys, books, or even clothes. With its appropriate size of 17.5″ height x 17″ diameter, I believe it’s not too big to be a bother, nor is it too small to accommodate stuffs. As it is made of heavy 100% organic cotton canvass, it stands on its own though empty. It can also be easily be folded and kept if not in use to save space. My little one loves animals, and the unique design especially catches her attention and so often reminded to put back the toys she scattered on the floor(there are different other animals to choose from, like zebras, hippos, raccoons).

RockPrettyBaby has lots to offer most particularly if you are looking into being more eco-friendly. In fact I can’t wait to have a baby again just so I can use their lovely baby products. The Fuzzibunz cloth diaper and Wubbanub Pacifiers with pink pony made a great impact on me. Even those for my personal use like the Keeki non-toxic nail polish and all natural finger nail polish remover. Bags, toys, accessories, necessities…almost every need is there. I tell you, there’s just so many MUST HAVE’S. It is just in time for you to hear of this if not before, because now there is a SPRING SALE FEVER that mommies from everywhere are getting excited about. Reasonably priced goodies are now even more affordable without compromising the high standard.

Stop waiting around and get yourself a 3 Sprouts Organic Storage Bin – Sly Fox (or the owl, monkey, whatever) to train your kid to be as neat as my kid. Get one for every one of your kids. Get 3 Sprouts Organic Storage Bin – Sly Fox and more even easier with rockprettybaby.ca FREE SHIPPING on orders over $49 or with flat rate of only $5 if below (for within Canada and US Mainland). For other places worldwide, don’t hesitate to contact for your easy purchase of one of the most sought eco-friendly goodies! 11-03-09 - Glimpse - Diaper Pretty Baby

Diaper Pretty Baby! ~ GIVEAWAY!

A while back I did a review for Rockpretty Baby - an online shop based in Calgary, filled with products that are not only safe for our children but safe for the environment. We have certainly been enjoying our Lunch Punch sandwich cutters and the Bambu forks and spoons - they're great for take-along lunches and snacks.

Of course, only the 2 older kids can use either of these items, and Kelly, who operates Rockpretty Baby, realized that our baby would be "left out" so she sent along a reusable diaper for Annalies to use. We've been using the GroVia diaper for several weeks now.

The GroVia system is made up of a shell, in various great colours, and a snap-in insert. It's a one-size diaper with several adjustments for rise, and it closes with hook-and-loop tape, so it's very adjustable around the waist as well. The idea is that you can purchase organic cotton soaker pads and shells separately (pads are sold in packs of 2), so if an insert is used, you can just replace the insert and reuse the same shell, saving money and laundry! GroVia also makes a biodegradeable, compostable, disposable soaker for convenience on the go.

I found the GroVia a bit tricky to use at first, because I couldn't figure out how to properly adjust it for a smaller baby. I emailed Kelly, and she explained it to me very clearly, and even made a short video to demonstrate the diaper's use. Such great and fast service! :) Once I had it figured out, I like the diaper quite well. The "trick" was to fold the insert in so it didn't stick out over the edge at the front, and I'm not sure why I didn't think of this myself, but somehow it never occurred to me! The insert is a little bulky, but very absorbent, we found, and I really like the idea of using the shell several times with clean inserts.  It's easy to put on and adjust, and so far no leaks!

The diaper is also easy to care for - both the soaker pad and the shell can be machine washed and dried, although it's recommended to line-dry the shells to make them last longer.

The GroVia diapers used to be sold as a set of a shell and soaker pad together, so Rockpretty Baby has all their remaining sets discounted (no further discounts can be used for the specially-priced sets). Make sure to check out what they have and take advantage of this deal!

10-10-16 - Glimpse - Safe & Cool Kids Stuff

Safe and cool kids stuff - Rockpretty Baby! - GIVEAWAY!!

Rockpretty Baby is an online shop based in Calgary. Their goal is to make safe and hip children's products available on the Canadian market - the items we read about in magazines and ads but can't always find in local (chain) stores. They sell a variety of products, from meal-time accessories to bed and bath wares. There's also a section for products for parents! And, they're constantly bringing in new products, so check back often! The site is very well organized, with an easy-to-find search option. The items are sorted by category, as well as by organic, eco-friendly and 'Made in Canada', and a new sorting option, by colour! Imagine if you have a child who only wants things of a certain colour - here is the place to look! :) Communication with Rockpretty Baby has been easy, with responses coming in a timely manner. Shipping happened exactly when it was promised, and we had the products in house very quickly.

We were sent a couple of items from Rockpretty Baby's collection. Jonathan and Daniel received a set of Bambu utensils each, and our little one (still to come) will be trying out a cloth diaper - that review will come later!

Bambu utensils are very light weight. They come in 2 lengths: baby (5") and child (5.5") and are smoothly sanded, so very suitable for children. Rock Pretty Baby also carries the Bambu spork. Jonathan has used the utensils in his lunch a few times, and they're a great alternative to plastic - even less to throw away. The tines on the Bambu are slightly bigger than the tines of a metal fork, so it's a little bit trickier to poke pieces of soft fruit, but the spoon has been very successful. I can see that these utensils would also be great for picnics or other "take-along" adventures - they're just the right size for the kids to use (we got the smaller ones).

I also purchased a set of Lunch Punch animal sandwich cutters. These work great on firm sandwiches (chicken salad filling was to soft and squishy!) to change up the school lunches! There are different sets available. They wash up easily and make a fun surprise in the sandwich bag! :)

WIN IT!

One lucky Glimpse reader will win a set of their choice of Lunch Punch cutters or the equivalent value in a gift certificate ($17). To enter, please tell visit Rockpretty Baby and comment on which Lunch Punch set you'd choose, or which other item you'd choose with your gift certificate.

08-10-31 - Sweet Mama - Pretty Babies Rock

We movie-buff mamas know that Rock, Pretty Baby was an iconic movie from the ’50s. Now jump ahead 50 years and you get Rockpretty Baby, a brand new online baby boutique (there’s nothing old fashioned about it).

Offering trendy, modern choices on unique products that just make sense, Rockpretty Baby’s clean design appealed to us right away. A chic Calgary mother of two, Kelly Fraser created the store in the summer of 2008, born out of her concern for the environment and her personal style savvy.

BabyLegs organic cotton leg warmers ($15.95) remind us of our Jane Fonda workout days, while protecting the knees of our crawlers. BPA-free, stainless steel Klean Kanteen sippy cups ($20.95), portable Baby Cubes ($6.95) and Goo Goo Baby Perfect Pocket Smocks ($29.95) – perfect for the kid that gets food everywhere -- round out meal-time accessories.
